Statistics


Australia received 13,000 claims for asylum between July 2000 and June 2001, 4,490 of these claims were by detained asylum seekers. Canada on the other hand received 44,500 asylum applications for the same period. The following chart shows the number of asylum seekers applying for asylum in Australia and Canada from 1992 -2001.
